Glittering a Putz House

Craft Supplies

• Tacky Glue or Art Institute Glitter Adhesive

• Ultrafine Crystal Glitter (for the house)

• Larger Crystal Glitter (for snow/ornament base)

• Variety of different size Flat + Round paintbrushes

• Cup of Water/Paper Towel to clean paintbrushes)

• Shallow Box or Tray lined with wax paper (to catch & reuse glitter)

Getting Started

• Work near a window or set up a lamp so you’ll have good lighting to help you easily see the glue as you apply it on your house.

• If you’re using diluted Tacky Glue it’s a good idea to do a test run on a scrap of cardboard. Thin Glue dries too fast & will shed glitter. Glue that’s too thick is difficult to work with & won’t cover easily.

• Test your dry paintbrushes around the windows & open areas to see how they cover & fit before you start.

• I prefer to glitter the back & sides of the house first, saving the front for last ‘cause who looks at the back?

Applying Glue + Glitter

• Apply Glitter Glue across the entire surface of the back side of your house with a larger flat or round paintbrush ,.

•  Work quickly but carefully around the light hole all the way to the edges. You want a nice layer of glue that’s wet + thick enough to hold your glitter.

➤ Be careful to keep glue off the upper Triangle and Rectangle tabs where you’ll glue the Roof onto your House

Hold the house over your Glitter Box to sprinkle/pour a thick layer of Ultrafine Crystal Glitter over the glue. Tap & shake to cover with glitter.  Shake the excess glitter into your Glitter Box.  Pour the extra glitter back into your container to refill as needed.

• Follow those same steps to glitter both sides + the front of your house.

• Use a larger brush to cover open areas first. Switch to the right size brush to work around your already glittered Window & Door Trim to quickly but carefully create a nice layer of glue.

• Hold your house over the Glitter Box + pour a thick layer of Ultrafine Glitter over the glue. Shake and tap to cover the whole surface and shake off excess glitter.

• When you’ve finished glittering your house, set it aside on wax paper to dry for 1-2 hours.

• Use a ruler and pencil to lightly mark the Roof overhang (Eaves) on the underneath side of the Roof. Apply glue and glitter to the overhang strip, keeping your glue and glitter off the inner area where you’ll glue the roof on your house. Set the Roof aside to dry.

•. When the Roof is dry, apply Quick Grab Tacky Glue across the Triangle + Rectangle Tabs of the House. Lining up your Overhang Strip and the Peak, place the Roof on your House. Press and hold them together until set. Glue your Chimney on the Roof & set the house aside to dry.
